FUFA AGM at crossroads

Sep 26, 2001

THIS year’s FUFA elections will be held under the current constitution.

By Daniel Saire THIS year’s FUFA elections will be held under the current constitution. This follows a report that the FUFA constitutional review committee, would not table amendments to the October 13 extra-ordinary general assembly for discussion. Delegates who met on September 15, appointed a new five-man committee to complete the gathering of views from stakeholders about the FUFA constitution amendments. The committee chaired by George Kakaire was asked to table the amendments on October 13. The committee met yesterday at Nakivubo Stadium and decided to start the work afresh after failing to get views collected earlier by the John Semanobe group that was disbanded. “Since the old committee has not given us anything, we decided to begin the work afresh and it will take us some months to accomplish,” Kakaire said. Kakaire, added that they met sports state minister Okello Oryem last week and told him about the little time frame given. Other members of the committee are Teopista Birungi, Mohammed Segonga, Rajab Kisekka and Ahmed Bbumba. It is a relief to Dennis Obua’s camp that has been fighting to have the elections under the current constitution. Delegates will now debate on the president, treasurer and accounts committee reports. Delegates will there after go into open campaigns. ends
