Mbabazi to skip Uganda Open

THE 1999 Uganda ladies open golf champion Norah Mbabazi will miss the 2001 edition of the event that tees off tomorrow.

Mbabazi who is out of the country has not registered for Caltex sponsored 54-holes stroke play tournament at the par-72 Kitante course. “Mbabazi is not in touch with us, I think she will not be around for the tournament,” Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president Monica Ntege said. “We will miss her (Mbabazi) competition but we are also single handicap players capable of winning,” Ntege said. “We have many players who have won the open before.” Rose Naliaka (h/c1+) and seven other Kenyans arrived yesterday r VETERAN golfer John Waigo carded 71 nett to win an air ticket at the World Tourism Day tournament yesterday. Waigo, playing off handicap 7, got a birdie on 8 enroute to success in the 18 hole tournament at the Kitante course. Air tickets to various destinations of the world were also given to other top performers. Tournament sponsors including sponsors including British Airways, Sabena Airlines, Kenya Airways offered the tickets, the event’s main prize. Gideon Tinyinondi (69), Fred Oketcho (70), Jenina Nasimolo who carded 72 and Rose Musoke at 73 were the other winners. ends
