By Joyce Namutebi WOMEN Members of Parliament have appealed to the Prime Minister and Leader of Government Business, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, to advise on how to educate their spouses to be accommodating and supportive to them. The appeal was made yesterday at a capacity building workshop organised by the Uganda Women Parliamentarians (UWOPA) and the Office of the Parliamentary Professional Development (OPPD) at the International Conference Centre, Kampala. The theme of the workshop was “Effective Legislative Representation: The Way Forward.” Annette Mukabera (Woman Kisoro), while discussing Nsibambi’s presentation said, “The spouses we have are a problem to women leaders. They don’t understand the roles we play. There are some who don’t know our political life.” Another MP said, “They should also try to understand us. We are no longer women of their mothers’ time. I appeal to the Prime Minister to talk to the men and tell them to adjust.” Nsibambi, in his presentation on “self awareness and self management,” advised those who are married to set aside time for their husbands. He said women MPs should learn to capture media attention by making catchy and punchy phrases. He said they must cherish, practise and market time management and invest in education. Ends
