WASHINGTON, Friday – US military leaders have put a stop to the deployment of international peace keepers in Afghanistan, ruling such operations could hinder US objectives there, The Washington Post has said, quoting administration officials. Army General Tommy Franks, commander of US operations in the central Asian nation, has decided that such offers of assistance are premature, given the constantly changing situation in the country, the paper said. “His focus right now is certainly not on peace-keeping. ... You have to have a peace before you can keep a peace,” said Rear Admiral Craig Quigley, a senior military spokesman at the US Central Command, which oversees the Afghan war. AFP Ends
