SENSATIONAL Andrew Owor was on Wednesday crowned rugby’s Most Valuable Player(MVP). Owor, chairman of Impis RFC, was rewarded for his efforts in turning the Makerere University side into one of the leading forces in local rugby.

Owor, chairman of Impis RFC, was rewarded for his efforts in turning the Makerere University side into one of the leading forces in local rugby. Allan Musoke, man-of-the-match when Uganda upset Zambia in their World Cup qualifier in Kampala, settled for Players’ player-of-the-year award and top scorer’s award. Michael Wandera was the MVP runner-up while youngster Simon Wakabi from Namilyango College was voted the season’s Under-19 best player. Namilyango were also schools champions. The awards were presented at the second annual rugby dinner at Hotel Africana. Uganda’s leading clubs, supporters, players, sponsors and officials were recognised at the colourful function sponsored by Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL). Sports state minister Okello Oryem, British High Commissioner Tom Phillips and rugby boss Paul Sigombe gave out the awards. “I am delighted to be here with one of the successful associations in Uganda after such a hectic period of FUFA elections. It is indeed a relief,” remarked minister Oryem. ends
