Let media take lead

SIR— For years, the solutions to major problems in Uganda e.g. human rights abuse, poverty, hygiene, war, corruption, epidemics, illiteracy have been left for non-governmental organisations and the Government itself. Now with the ongoing divestiture and ever changing economic environs, the public is left ignorant and dying. Many media houses have come up in the past five years offering job opportunities, entertainment, scholarship, business, name it. But is that enough? Many of them discuss politics, which is not instrumental in this case. They should instead voluntarily help in educating the public on those issues I have already mentioned issues of national concern since the radio is the cheapest medium in Uganda. Simon Opany Kampala
