Aryemo named woman of series

CHRISTINE Aryemo, grabbed the woman-of-series award in the December 18-23 International Cricket Council (ICC) East Africa Under-18 women tournament in Dar es Salaam.

By Ronnie Kintu CHRISTINE Aryemo, grabbed the woman-of-series award in the December 18-23 International Cricket Council (ICC) East Africa Under-18 women tournament in Dar es Salaam. The 16-year-old, a student of City High School received her award during the closing ceremony in Tanzania’s business city. Aryemo, also the vice captain for the Uganda women team that finished second behind Tanzania was also awarded woman-of-match in the first game against the hosts and also scooped the best batter among the girls in the tournament. The youngster picked eight wickets in 12.2 overs for only 52 runs. She was the highest top scorer with 72 runs in three innings playing twice unbeaten against Tanzania with the highest score of 38 runs. She was applauded for her good fielding and intelligent approach to the game. Ugandans Jane Byani and Frankline Najjumba were among other girls mentioned alongside Mary Nandelenga for splendid performance in the women category of the tournament. In the boy’s under-15 category, Geoffrey Nyero of Uganda scooped the man of the match award in a game Uganda played against Tanzania team B. The juvenile picked three wickets for seven runs in six overs and fielded well to enable his team trounce the hosts by five wickets. The best bowler’s award went to Tanzanian Hamis Abudallah (12/64 in 31 overs) while the best batsman in the boys category went to Kenyan Mishra Tanmay who accumulated 103 runs in three innings. Tahir Popat (13 years) also from Kenya was named man-of-series. ends
