Supporters of Democratic Party (DP) President Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere were yesterday barred from holding a press conference at the party's headquarters at City House, Kampala, reports Emmanuel Mulondo. "We don't stop people from meeting in these offices, but anyone who wants to hold a meeting should inform us first so that there's order in the place," party secretary general Mariano Drametu said. The stopping of the meeting, which had been slated for 2:00pm, was soon followed by the convening of another meeting by the party select committee mandated to spearhead the DP leadership renewal. Angry supporters of Ssemogerere, led by Dr. Charles Kasozi, said the party offices were meant for use by all members and not cliques. Kasozi, who is the Inter-District Consultative Forum secretary, is opposed to replacing Ssemogerere as party president. He said those who had stopped the meeting were government agents who are fighting Ssemogerere. About three weeks ago, Drametu unsuccessfully tried to stop a similar meeting.
