MILITARY stormed the Sportsman Kakungulu Cup final last evening.

By William Muwonge Military 2 Masaka LC 0 MILITARY stormed the Sportsman Kakungulu Cup final last evening. Veteran striker Mathias Kawesa guaranteed his side qualification with a double strike against the first division side at Mandela stadium. Military, handled by Uganda's leading coach David Otti, will meet double chasing SC Villa in the Cup final. Villa, in strong pursuit of the league crown, got a huge boost yesterday after rivals KCC fell 3-0 to Mbarara at Nakivubo. Kawesa scored the fastest goal of the event, 25 seconds after kick off yesterday, and sealed Masaka LC's fate six minutes to time. The clean shaven forward combined beautifully with Abdalla Mubiru and Nimrod Kaboha before scoring the early goal. Kawesa struck again after a goalkeeping blunder by Masaka LC's Robert Mukasa. Mukasa opted to hold the goalbound curling shot instead of punching the ball out of play. Instead the ball went through his hands into the net. Mukasa's colleagues looked disturbed by the blunder just like the team's maverick coach Sam Ssimbwa. "I do not know what happened to my goalkeeper, he should have pushed the ball away," a sombre Ssimbwa said at the end of the match. Masaka returns to action against Mityana Utoda in the Buganda Super mini league semi finals at Mityana today. Military's Otti said he faced a hard challenge in Masaka LC. "We had a striking problem, we are lucky to have won, we now have to plan for the final." r MBARARA FC handed KCC FC a humiliating 3-0 defeat in a Nile Special Super League match played last evening at Nakivubo. Congolese import Toto Songe netted a hat trick to take his tally to 12 and froze KCC's slim title hopes in a fast paced encounter. The fast and short striker looped KCC goalkeeper Abdu Salim for his first goal in nine minutes, doubled it on the hour and killed off the game in the 67th minute with compatriot Raul Lukusa featuring prominently in the first two.
