Inzikuru wins USPA award

WORLD junior 5000m gold medalist Dorcus Inzikuru was yesterday unanimously voted Sportsman of October at the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) monthly meeting at Tourist Hotel in Kampala.

By Leo Kabunga WORLD junior 5000m gold medalist Dorcus Inzikuru was yesterday unanimously voted Sportsman of October at the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) monthly meeting at Tourist Hotel in Kampala. Inzikuru, 18, from Mvara SS in Arua, scooped the sports scribes' award for becoming the first Ugandan woman to win a gold medal from a world championship. She took the first ever global athletics medal for a Ugandan woman in a tactical race by out-sprinting Meseret Defar of Ethiopia to win in 16 minutes 21.32 seconds in Chile. USPA also commended Cranes for winning the inaugural Castle Cup. In the meantime, USPA has named a 14-man team to select the Sports Journalists of the year. The panel has Andrew Luwandagga, Wangwe Mulakha, Louis Jadwong, Mark Ssali, Francis Batte , Fred Kakeeto, Ndiwalana Kiwanuka, Stephen Ssempa, Philip Corry, Bogere Masembe, Yusuf Emiru, Henry Rugamba, Fred Sekitto and F.Kyeyune.
