By Vision Reporter PRESIDENTIAL aspirant Kiiza Besigye has disputed yesterday's New Vision Page 3 story, "Hostile FM callers overwhelm Besigye." "The callers were definitely friendly and I was not overwhelmed," Besigye said yesterday. "The programme had been scheduled for one hour but I agreed to make it two hours. It was well past midnight when I was informed that a caller had paid sh1.6m for me to stay another two hours but I explained that I had to leave for Rukungiri in the early morning. But I promised that I would return to Greater African Radio with ample time," Besigye explained. He denied that he had planned a march from the centre of town to the radio station as a curtain raiser. "How can there be a planned march at 10.30pm at night? This is a clear fabrication," Besigye said. He also denied that his wife, Winnie, had assisted him to answer questions. "How can someone sitting next to you have a hand in answering the questions because they will be heard as it is live radio?" he said. He said he was concerned that The New Vision was being used against him and added that all candidates should be treated equally. He said his campaign was going very well. He said the turnout for his meeting in Rukungiri had been "tremendous" despite "intense effort to sabotage our function." He added that leaders in Mbarara had started mobilisation committees to support him. Ends.
