LADY Bucks overcame stiff opposition from A-Challenge to win the highly contested deciding game of the playoff final to retain the women's Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) classic league title.
The champions who fought back to level matters on 2-2 in the best-of-five series finally brushed aside the determined challengers to win the title for the third year in a row in a match that went into extra time on Sunday.
Lillian Letaru propelled Lady Bucks with a team high 18 points while her teammates Christine Nalwoga and Jennifer Nsibongire added 11 and eight points respectively as their side snatched victory.
Mavita Ali's game high 20 points and Rosette Meyar's 11 points fell short of salvaging A-1 Challenge who succumbed to Lady Bucks in extra time.
Lady Bucks took an early 10-points lead but A-1 Challenge settled to draw level on 29-29 at halftime. A-1 Challenge went on to lead by seven points early in the second period and could have led by a wider margin but were let down by poor shooting.
A-1 grabbed a five-point lead with five minutes to go but then collapsed for Lady Bucks to level on 49-49 to stretch the game into extra time- in which A-1 was subdued.
