Island teachers to earn more

"We are recruiting teachers countrywide to boost our primary education sector and starting this financial year, teachers who go to Islands will get 20% incentive'' Bitamazire said at Mukono teachers cooperative savings and credit society Limited annual general meeting. The function held on Saturday at Mukono boarding primary school main hall was attended by the LC5 Chairman, Mr. Godfrey Kiwanuka Musisi, Mr John Ntege, Chairman of Teachers and Member of parliament for Mukono North, Mr Kintu Mukasa. Bitamazire said that government recognises the role of teachers in national development. He said it is committed to improve on their welfare. She said that the country has so far 94,000 teachers registered at a ratio of 1 to 110 pupils in primary one and three. " We need a ratio of 1 to 80 pupils per teacher between primary two and three," she said. Ends.
