THE Cabinet has approved the creation of two new districts in Kabarole, reports Kezio D. Musoke. A letter from the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Local Government, Vincent Sekkono, to the Clerk to Parliament, Aeneas Tandekwire, named the new districts as Kyenjonjo and Kamwenge. Sekkono requested Tandekwire to inform MPs about the Cabinet's decision. He also wanted Parliament to pass a resolution approving the creation of the new districts. The approval of the two new districts brings the number of proposed districts to eight. Others are Wakiso and Kayunga from Mpigi, Yumbe from Arua, Sironkho from Mbale, Pader from Kitgum and Mayuge from Iganga. The division of Kabarole has caused a split in the district and among MPs from the area. Tourism minister Prof. Edward Rugumayo, and Maj. Tom Butiime for disaster preparedness, have been opposed to the proposal. The district administration has been opposed to the creation of the new districts. Local government minister Bidandi Ssali is yet to table a motion in Parliament to debate the districts. Ends.
