Schools get sh300m

MBARARA District Administration has received Sh. 300m from ministry of Education and Sports for constructing 12 primary schools in the district, Principal Education Officer, Charles Turyahikayo,has revealed.

Bifubyeka in Mbarara "Four schools out of these 12, will be constructed within Mbarara Municipality alone and the remaining eight will be constructed in other areas outside this municipality," he said. Speaking to Education Vision on Thursday, Turyahikayo said, "Sh. 90m will be spent on renovating Makenke Barracks Primary school situated near Mbarara town." The Principal Education Officer said that all master plans for constructing new schools are complete and early next year (2001), construction will commence. "The first priority of this government is to modernise the education sector in this country because education is a shot cut to success in any venture," he said. Turyahikayo said Ministry of Education has decided to start down from primary level in implementing its long plan of improving the quality of education. He said if all primary schools are put to on a good standard, definitely the secondary and university academic quality will improve as a result. Ends.
