VICE-President Speciosa Kazibwe has advised the youth to fight poverty through cooperative societies. Kazibwe also warned the youth against acquiring wealth through dubious means. She said government has a "three-year development programme to help the youth eliminate poverty and illiteracy." Kazibwe was on Thursday night addressing over 250 youth attending a four-day training workshop at her farm at Ddundu in Mukono district. The workshop was addressed by Major Kakooza Mutale and attended by ministers, Basoga Nsadhu, Nsangi Kakembo, Muruli Mukasa and Betty Okwir. "The movement government has not forgotten the youth, contrary to what some people say. Among the reasons why you came here is to learn how to reset new cooperative societies, a bottom-up style of organised communities. Be committed to wanting to be successful. "We should have a multiplier effect. You should have income generating activities because it is time for all youth to know about ideological development, modern agricultural production, HIV/AIDS, malaria and tsetse control," she said. "The piloting has started with you the Mukono youth. We have a three-year minimum scheme to develop the youth. Associate with people who are successful through the right reasons," Kazibwe said. She warned them against spending lavishly on wedding and graduation ceremonies but concentrate on viable means of production. She asked them to intensify the fight against Aids. "You must be alive as you already know my position on condoms. Those who do not know how to wear them should learn," she said. "I know this is a Catholic family but Catholics are conservative but the cathedrals won't be full... I will sing this to the youth until we succeed," Kazibwe said. She said the condoms are there for disease control and family planning. She said all youth in the country would benefit from the Ddundu workshops. "But during this camp, no smoking, alcoholism and no sex," Kazibwe warned the youth, causing prolonged laughter. Kazibwe promised that the youth form all the districts would benefit from the Ddundu workshops. Ends
