Women activitists have vowed to vote in favour of a presidential candidate whose manifesto clearly spells out an action plan on gender, reports Lillian Nalumansi. Dr Sylvia Tamale, a senior law lecturer at Makerere University, who has also been involved in promoting women's rights, was speaking yesterday at the International Conference Centre at a lecture in honour of the late Kulsum Wakabi, former chairperson of Law and Advocacy for Women-Uganda. The women said they will grill presidential aspirants in the 2001 race on what they intend to do to ensure that issues like the much awaited Domestic Relations Bill are passed into law. "We shall demand for a gender manifesto plan from all aspiring candidates which should have a detailed plan on what the candidates propose to do for the marginalised members of society like women. Their manifesto should have data on what a particular candidate will do to ensure that the Domestic Relations Bill, for instance, is passed into law and when," Tamale said. Ends
