Namagunga to get new headmistress

THE Education Service Commission is yet to recruit a replacement for the retiring headmistress of Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga, Sr. Cephas Cormack, reports John Eremu. The deputy chairman of the commision Mr. Okot Garmoi told The New Vision yesterday that interviews were going on to appoint at least six head teachers for "A" Level Girls' Boarding schools, one of whom will be posted to Namagunga. "The Education Service Commission only interviews and appoints teachers and head teachers, but the Ministry of Education and Sports does the posting." he said. "By the beginning of the new term in February 2,001 a new headmistress will have been substantially appointed for Namagunga," Garmoi said. Cephas has reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years and is quitting at the end the year. after serving the school for over 30 years. Garmoi said 40 people have been shortlisted for oral interviews to fill the six vacancies in "A" Level girls boarding schools. He declined to give any names but said the interviews will be concluded by the end of the year. The commission recently advertised over 200 vacancies for head teachers in the 623 government secondary schools. Ends.
