By Hillary Kiirya BUGANDA Road Court, Kampala, was on Thursday thrown into a frenzy when a 20-year-old man began crying after his charge was read out to him. Asuman Ikomoro, resident of Namirembe Road, Kampala, was charged with assaulting and causing bodily harm to a seven year-old child of Corner Junior School. Prosecution alleged that Asuman Ikomoro on December 3, this year, at Old Kampala Police Barracks, unlawfully assaulted Bob Naingene. He caused him actual bodily harm. "Owekitibwa Omulamuzi, mbadde nsaba court, bano abasajja banzitire ddala" said the accused meaning, "My Lord the Magistrate, I am requesting this court that these men kill me." Ikomoro who was appearing before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Lydia Mugambe, accepted having committed the act and immediately began crying. When the magistrate asked him whether he was tired of his life, he said that he was tired of policemen beating him. He also told the court that drivers have always wanted to knock him as he walks along the streets of Kampala. The magistrate, however, ordered prosecution to get the accused a mental medical check up because it seemed he was mentally ill. The accused still in tears also told the magistrate that he did not have anybody to stand surety for him at the time. He said he sleeps on the city's verandahs and therefore has nobody to stand for him. Ikomoro was remanded to Luzira Prison. Ends.
