We haven't got our salary

The staff of the production sector in local governments, whose salary is paid as a conditional grant, have not received their salary for December 2010 and January 2011. We are not even sure of the February salary!

Surprisingly, nobody both at the district and national levels has given us any explanation. There is a rumour, that the money meant for the salary could have been channelled to the ongoing election campaigns. Salary is a right and not a privilege.

The Government's policy is that workers should be paid by 28th day of every month. What is even more disturbing is that all MPs recently received a colossal sum of sh20m whose purpose and origin was not clear.

While some MPs are taking back the money which would pay on average 30 production staff, our children have not been able to report back to school and our families are struggling for survival.

Is someone sabotaging the President’s manifesto and campaign slogan of 'prosperity for all' through agriculture? God forbid!
