“Chiefs should mobilise and sensitise the locals so as to bring more development programmes in the region,†Odongo said.
He made the remarks while addressing hundreds of alur people of Congo at Agape University in Mahagi, in Congo recently.
Japamora led a delegation of over 70 people from Uganda for the unification meeting meant to draw a joint Kingdom strategic five-year development plan.
He called for easy cross-border movement in order to promote trade and fight poverty in both countries.
Odongo urged farmers to grow tea which, he said, would get ready market from non-governmental organisations willing to construct tea factories in Zombo and Mahagi.
He disclosed that the Government had injected over sh13.2b for the revival of tea growing in the region.
Odongo urged the Alur community in the diaspora to embrace the kingdom’s development plan as a way of fighting poverty in homesteads.
Mahagi district commissioner, Yermineno Unega called for the establishment of a common market to promote trade in the region.
“There should be unity along the border and emphasis should be put on development of businesses, agriculture and culture,†Unega said.
Nebbi LC5 chairman John Pascal Wapokurwa called for rapid completion of the Nyagak Hydro-Power project to attract investors and help establish factories that would avail employment opportunities to the residents especially the youth.
Present at the meeting were LC5 chairmen, Kakura Emmy (Zombo), John Pascal Wapokurwa (Nebbi), security officials both in Uganda and Congo, NGO representatives and the business community.
