UGANDA Table Tennis Association resumes its All Africa Games build-up with a rankings tournament this weekend.

The men’s cream led by top seed Jackson Migadde will converge at Kololo Senior Secondary School this morning for the two day competition.

UTTA official Paul Mutambuze said the competition has drawn the top 32 men. It will be followed the following weekend by the women’s competition featuring the leading 16 players.

“We want to keep people busy as we start planning for selections,” explained Mutambuze, who together with another veteran George Igga will also be in action this weekend.

Ronald Nyaika is seed two. Seed three is Kevin Mafabi followed by Mutambuze and Igga in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

UTTA plan to have the ranking tournament every month before the Pan African event.

The 10th All-Africa Games will take place from September 3–18, 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The local table tennis body has also kept players active with a national league.

“The league, ranking meets together with other local and international competitions should mold a strong team for Maputo,” said Mutambuze.
