KENYANS yesterday joined Ugandans in mourning the death of veteran player and coach, David Otti.

Joe Kadenge, who played against Otti during the Gossage Cup in the 1960s, said the region has lost a great footballer who lifted Uganda’s flag to great heights.

Kadenge appealed to leaders in the region to recognise players who have brought honours to their countries, saying awarding them medals only is not enough.

Kadenge recalled with nostalgia their stint with the then Kenya professional side, Volcano, where Otti was the coach and him (Kadenge) as team manager.

Former KFF treasurer, Taib Koor, said death had robbed Ugandans of a man whose contribution to the development of the sport was immeasurable. “I am happy he has left a legacy,” he noted.

  • The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has put off today’s monthly assembly till March 14 to allow members attend the requiem mass in honour of the deceased at All Saints Church, Nakasero.
