THE incumbent Nebbi LC3 chairman, Festo Sotero Onen (NRM), is tussling it out with two other contestants for the seat in today’s elections.
Onen is facing John Baptist Oyera (FDC) and Chombe Mucek (UPC).
Nebbi town is found in Nebbi district which is located in the West Nile sub-region. It has a population of about 30,000 and has been a stronghold for the opposition as seen in its scoring highly in the presidential, parliamentary and LC5 elections held recently.
Residents of Nebbi are yearning for a leader who will address the issue of lack of safe water and construct better roads in the town.
Onen said he had upgraded the standard of the roads in the town. He said he wants to be elected so that he can continue with the battle of enabling Nebbi attain a municipal status.
Oyera promised to improve access to clean water and build more toilets. He also pledged to fight corruption, which, he said, had riddled the town council.
“Our current leaders have failed to fight corruption in the town. That is why we have a junk generator supplied under the water and urban sanitation project, which cannot pump enough water for residents,†Oyera said.
He said he would lobby for funds from the Central Government to improve service delivery in the area.
Mucek said service delivery had been poor in the town council due to greedy leaders.
“We have had leaders who do not consider the needs of the people they serve. They divert the resources meant for the people to activities that are for their benefit,†he said.
Mucek promised to improve the road network to create easy movement of people and produce.
