THE former presidential candidates in the February 17 general elections have been given a two-month ultimatum to account for the money Electoral Commission gave to them.

Each of the eight presidential candidates was given Sh20m and a vehicle for the campaigns.

Electoral Commission secretary Sam Rwakoojo said on Friday, “We have not received accountability from the former candidates yet. Although they have all returned the vehicles, we also expect them to submit the accountability of the money given to them.”

NRM Presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni was declared the winner after receiving 64% of ballot cast. Other candidates in the race were IPC’s Kizza Besigye, DP’s Nobert Mao, UPC’s Olara Otunnu, Beti Kamya of UFA, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali of PPP and PDP’s Abed Bwanika.

It’s a requirement under the law, the former candidates to account for the money given to them for campaigns.
