WHEN it was all over, there really couldn’t have been more deserving winners of the inaugural men’s Twenty20 national cricket league than Patidar Samaj.

Nine wins out of nine – that is the record with which Nirav Patel’s side ended the month-long event that attracted 15 teams. Still Patidar’s unbeaten record entering the final day of the league would have meant nothing if they had been dumped in their semi-final clash with Charity or the subsequent final with Nile.

Patidar, though, would not be denied, first edging out Charity by 48 runs before defeating Nile by 21 runs.

“We feel excellent,” said Patidar captain Patel after his team outlasted Nile. “Actually, the trophy came after (too) many years for Patidar. It is 13 years since Patidar started so we are really happy.”
