Fuel is more expensive in Rwanda than in Uganda

EDITOR: I have heard opposition politicians several times in the media trying to justify their uncalled for demonstrations against high fuel and commodity prices.

They often refer to Rwanda as a place where fuel prices are low despite the country being landlocked like Uganda. I arrived in Kigali on Friday and was surprised to find that petrol in Rwanda is 1060 francs and diesel is 1050 francs.

In Uganda petrol issh3,500 and diesel sh3,200. Considering the current exchange rate of 3.8 for 1 Rwandan franc, it is easy to calculate and realise how expensive fuel is in Rwanda. Politicians should stop taking Ugandans for granted by using them to fight their political battles in the name of 'feeling for the poor'. Why are people there not rioting?
