MY friend and I were approached by a broker after we had been looking for a house for a long time. This was on October 10, 2010. The broker said he had got my friend’s phone number from another broker.

He took us to beautiful apartments in Bokoto near Kabira International School. According to him, the landlord wanted sh350,000 per month, and four months’ rent upfront. We asked for the contact and were told the landlord was in Ndeeba.

We went there, met him and were presented with an agreement which had the name of a law firm. I got the phone number of a lawyer who worked there.

When I asked the lawyer whether the landlord was his client, he said he could not remember, but promised to verify. However, when I mentioned the name of the law firm, he said it was true he still worked there, however his name was used wrongly.

The so-called landlord said he was not educated, but had the agreement drafted by a lawyer. Indeed it was a tenancy agreement drafted by a lawyer. The landlord had signed and countersigned on each page.

I paid and he called someone to clean the flat and instructed him to give us the keys the next day. However, when we went to the flats, we were told the landlord had not given any such instructions! We reported the matter to the Police, but what is more puzzling is that the Police say many people have been conned from the same place! Our Police reference number is SD 46/30/10/2010 o/m/f/p.

The suspect’s name is James Baliddawa and his phone number is 0772832968.
Mr. IGP, please intervene.
