How can I deal with irritating eyelashes

WHEN the eyelashes bend downwards, it may point to a disease called trachoma. The disease is common in areas with poor hygiene. The eye is attacked by bacteria which cause redness, and if not treated in time, causes scars on the upper inner eyelids.

Dear Doctor,
What is the remedy for eyelashes that rub against the eyes?
John

Dear John,
WHEN the eyelashes bend downwards, it may point to a disease called trachoma. The disease is common in areas with poor hygiene. The eye is attacked by bacteria which cause redness, and if not treated in time, causes scars on the upper inner eyelids.

When the scars heal, they cause the eyelashes to face downward. So when they keep rubbing against the eye, it causes pain and wounds, and may lead to blindness. You need to see an eye doctor.

There is eye assistance from health centre IIIs, and eye specialists in hospitals. Note that allergies can also mimic a feeling of eyelashes scratching on the eye.
