SC Villa is pursuing their former players Steven Bengo, Dan Wagaluka and Augustine Nsumba in a bid to lure them back to the Villa Park fold during the transfer period.

Bengo, Wagaluka and Nsumba are part of URA FC’s side that has just won the 2010/11 Uganda Super League, and are on course for a double when they meet Simba SC in the Bell Uganda Cup final tomorrow. Villa finished sixth on the league table.

Villa assistant coach Paul Mukatabala confirmed his club’s interest in the players saying that before his Serbian boss Srjan Zivojnov went on holiday last week, he instructed him to talk to them with a possibility of having them back at Villa Park.

It is reported that the players have expressed willingness to return to the Jogoos fold but are concerned about their running contracts with URA.

“We had a meeting with chairman (Fred Muwema) and he assured us of money for players’ recruitment. We need a mixture of youth and experience,” Mukatalaba said yesterday.

Muwema was due to return to Kampala yesterday from Dubai where he reportedly signed a memorandum of understanding with Al Wasl FC.

Villa has reached an exchange agreement with Al Wasl that will ensure sale of players to the Middle East in the near future.

And a source in the Jogoos ranks intimated that the main reason Villa hopes to return the players is the partnership with Al Wasl.

The source explained that the return of Bengo, Wagaluka and Nsumba, who have played professional football, would be a step in the right direction.
