MADAGASCAR holds the key to Uganda’s slim chances of winning the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) Division 1B tournament and should ride on the hosts’ support to tame Zimbabwe’s Sables at Kyadondo today.

The Sables, who defied a partisan home crowd to beat the Rugby Cranes 25-15 in the opening game on Sunday look tactically able to neutralise Madagascar’s pace.

Zimbabwe coach Cyprian Mandenge hinted that he would unleash a different approach when he comes up against the Madagascar Makis on neutral ground today.

A second successive victory for Zimbabwe will see them seal the title before even the Tri-Nations tournament winds up on Saturday.

But a win for Madagascar will reignite the competition with all three nations remaining in contention.

The Cranes, coached by Yayiro Kasasa (inset) would thus need to beat Madagascar by a comfortable margin to claim the trophy and get promoted to CAR Division 1A.

The result of the encounter between Zimbabwe and Madagascar will determine the margin with which Uganda has to beat Madagascar on Saturday.

By all counts Cranes have an uphill task given that the Makis are such a formidable team that is even capable of upstaging the coach Yayiro Kasasa’s side.
