THE New Vision has launched a new reading series in its TOTO magazine. The series which start today, will sharpen children’s learning and innovation skills.

The series dubbed ‘Up in the air: The story of the Wright brothers’, is a historical fiction based on the story of Wilbur and Orville Wright’s invention of the aeroplane.

The story brings out the events, method and ideas of the Wright brothers’ story.

It follows the brothers from youth, to their first flight in 1903, to Wilbur Wright’s public demonstrations of the plane in France in 1908, the triumphant moment at which the world first recognised Wilbur and Orville as the inventors of the aeroplane.

Children will read the series written and illustrated by Brian Floca and get a fascinating look at two brilliant bicycle shop owners who pursue the secrets of flight and thereby change the world.

New Vision editor-in-chief Barbara Kaija noted that children who are good readers perform better in class and succeed in life.

She said the New Vision was supporting the children to learn to read early in life by offering TOTO with different reading series.

Kaija said the Wright Brothers’ story forms an interesting and inspiring reading series which appeals to all age groups.

“It is intended to inspire our children to read. It is so captivating that all children will enjoy it and those who have reading difficulties will grapple through and make remarkable achievements in 18 weeks,” she said.

The discovery of the aeroplane by the Wright brothers will expose children to the virtues of innovation and adventure which are crucial to success in life, she added.

Kaija said the series were also a good resource for teachers since they will be able to do a myriad of activates with their classes based on them.

“The youth and adults will find the Wright brothers’ story fascinating and motivating. You don’t want to miss any of the series,” she said.

TOTO Magazine editor Jovita Ajuna said the series will help children, especially those who are adventurous to think about doing new things on their own.

“Children will find it very interesting and it will provoke them to become innovative,” she said.

Ajuna said that like the previous series that TOTO has been running, ‘Up in the air’ will be used as a teaching aid where children learn comprehension, grammar and new words.

Since the TOTO magazine started on August 11, 2010, it has had a number of educative series that include; Legend of the pony’s tears, A long walk to water and Matulida which is still running.
