Isingiro hospital treats Tanzanians, Rwandese

Health state minister Dr. Richard Nduhura commissioned a staff house, OPD block and launched the construction of sh120m general ward at Kabuyanda Health Center IV in Isingiro district.

The minister Nduhura noted that Kabuyanda health center serves over 200,000 patients some of them come from as far as Tanzania and Rwanda.

The facilities were part of United Nations Development Programmes under Ruhiira Millennium Villages Projects. Isingiro district local government contributed sh28 m towards the construction of the general ward.

Commissioning the facilities, Nduhura said “I can tell you without exaggeration that I have been very impressed by the progress the project has made. The record speak for themselves but what we see tell the story too.”

He said the project registered success in many areas of human health, like increased daily outpatient attendance from 90 to 650 persons in the 6 health centers in the project area.

Nduhura said the cases of malaria reduced by 79% at community level, and subsequently expenditure on malaria treatment reduced by 90 from $16 to 1 dollar 60 cents per month.

He said the number of mothers delivering in health centers increased from 8% to 89% and recorded zero maternal mortality in last two years.

Prof. Jeffrey David Sachs, Advisor to UN Secretary General on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Director Earth Institute at Columbia University, promised to support health centers neighboring Kabuyanda Health Center IV.
