The national athletics federation has delayed the naming of the national team to the All Africa Games, as they wait for the All Africa games organising committee to tell them their quota.

The organizing committee secretary Nicholas Muramagi had said that today’s meeting to be chaired by Commissioner for sports Dan Tamwesigire, will be out to give each federation that will represent Uganda the athletes that they are expected to enter on the team.

In the past, teams to such games have always been named at the end of the national track and field championships, but the technical committee decided to postpone the naming.

“We will announce the team after knowing how many we want. There is no reason for us to name a team and put the athletes in camp without knowing how many will be travelling,” said Faustin Kiwa, the technical committee head.

The athletes to the World Athletics championships do not need to be named as they automatically qualify for the World event by hitting the qualifying time.

In case they are more than three that have hit the time like it is in the long distances, then those with the best time in the season take the slots.
