A grenade recently exploded in Arua, killing two children and seriously injuring others, the Police has said. The incident took place at Ambala village in Madi Okollo in Arua district on Monday.

Paul Omara, the Arua CID boss, identified the deceased as Godfrey Nguma, 14 and one-year-old Sharon Nyataru.

The other victim, Gertrude Aniciru, is admitted at Kuluva Hospital.

Omara said the grenade went off as Ngoma played with it inside the house.

Fragments shattered his stomach, killing him instantly.

He said the weapon was probably left in a hidden bag by the grandfather of the victims who was a Police officer.

Gasper Adritia, who passed away in 2010, was attached to Logiri sub-county Police Post.

Omara urged the public to inform the Police whenever they come across unfamiliar items. He said parents should discourage children from playing with metals.
