Over One Thousand Ninety Three traffic officers and non-uniformed police have been deployed at different spots along highways and other roads in the country to check on the increasing accidents as the festive season sets in.

The commissioner traffic and road safety, Dr. Steven Kasiima Tuesday morning during a press conference at CSP said that they had deployed CID and liaison officers to work alongside traffic men to ensure motorists especially public service vehicle drivers comply with traffic rules and regulations.

He said there were over 200 black spots along several roads that motorists should take care of to reduce on the road carnage.  The dangerous spots are due to sharp corners, lack of road signs, large potholes, narrow roads and others.
Kasiima warned motorists going upcountry for the Christmas festivities to avoid drink driving and appealed to them to take extra care to avoid accidents.

He issues similar warnings to bus drivers and owners who fail to comply with route charts that regulate speed that they would be dealt with according to the law.

The commissioner condemned drivers who bribe traffic officers deployed on the roads to enforce rules that they would as well be charged.

Accordingly, Kasiima said his department would monitor and discipline officers who neglect their duty and cause accidents.

The commander in charge traffic in Kampala Metropolitan, Lawrence Niwabiine said they would mount impromptu check points to subject all drivers of Public Service Vehicles to alcohol tests to reduce on accidents that occur as a result of drink-driving.
