Deputy Finance Minister, Mr. C.R.C. Donald stated in LegCo that Uganda aimed to increase the area of cotton sprayed with anti-lygus insecticides

The Deputy Finance Minister, Mr. C.R.C. Donald stated in LegCo that Uganda aimed to increase the area of cotton sprayed with anti-lygus insecticides from 60,000 to 100,000 acres by the 1962 – 63 season. He said this seeking approval for a subsidy on insecticide used for cotton spraying. He said the ultimate target was to have 250,000 acres of cotton sprayed by 1965-66.

The subsidy would meet 30% of the cost of the spraying in the first year of the new subsidy and this would then be tapered down yearly to 40%. The government estimated increased acreage sprayed would yield increases of several ten thousands of bales of cotton a year.
A contract for the supply of the insecticide would be undertaken for the whole of the five year period at a cost of 925,000 pounds.
