Kenya Airways has apologised to angry clients whose flight was delayed and later cancelled initially without explanation.

The Kenya Airways Country manager for Uganda, Donald Ajuoga said today  that the airline’s  crafts which was scheduled to make several flights to and fro Entebbe Airport developed a technical problem.

“We though that the part would be fixed on time and we would fly the craft, but it (the part) was not cleared on time because of customs delays. It was beyond our control. We are very sorry,” Ajuoga said.

Commotion broke out at Entebbe International Airport midmorning yesterday as the 10am KQ flight number 411 to Nairobi was delayed and then cancelled. Some of the passengers who were to travel on the craft had been scheduled to fly at 9.00am but were told they would fly with the 10:00 passengers.

Angry passengers some of whom had connecting flights at Nairobi quarreled as they searched in vain for officials of the Kenya Airways to explain and make alternative arrangements. The announcement was made through the public address system wired in the terminal building.

The passengers had arrived at the Airport early in the morning to catch the flight at 10am but were told after waiting for sometime that the flight will be delayed to 11:30 am. However some a few minutes to the appointed time, a voice wafted through the public address system announcing the cancellation without any explanation.

When contacted later, Ajuoga said that officials from Kenya Airways and the Kenya High Commission had gone to the airport to handle the situation. He said that the airline would cater for everybody who was inconvenienced by the cancelled flight.

He said that the passengers will travel at 3.00pm and alternative connecting flights will be found for them.  “If there are no flights, we will find ways of sorting them out. They will all be] taken care of,” he said.

Some of the passengers who said that they had been told that they would finally fly out at 3.00pm said that KA came later to announce other arrangements though they did not explain what exactly happened.

Some of those who missed the morning flight said they had to cancel the journey because they were meant to attend a meeting in Nairobi and return to Uganda the same day.
