THE different sports associations and federation have advocated for a working Uganda Olympic Committee, with a chief executive officer on top.

The new format, which is aimed at professionalizing the institution, will leave the executive with a monitoring role of seeing how the day- today work is done.

In the first constitutional review meeting that took place at Oasis Mall, Lugogo Wednesday, members raised issues of the mandate  and powers of the executive and commissions, and also suggested that ways should be done in uniting both the Olympic Committee and  National Council of Sports as in other countries- as a way of not duplicating works.

Countries like South Africa and Germany have adopted resolutions that have united both the Olympic and Council, which has in turn increased their output.

The meeting chaired by Don Rukare, the constitution review head, got its first suggestions from a number of federations, with most of them calling for a broader supervision of federations to avoid briefcase associations that only become active towards voting time before going in slumber.

Some members also suggested that the president of UOC should appoint his executive, but on condition that working administrative structures with proper contracts and targets are put in place. This to the members will avoid the employment turn-over as a result of change in leadership.

“What we are doing is that we are going to get all the suggestions and put them in the working document that will be our guide. We will also look at the different regulations in place and advise what is possible.

The current constitution was last updated April 17, 1999 but the Olympic committee assembly that met May 21  at Makerere resolved that it should be revised and be put in line with the modern sports trends.,
