On October  16, 1961 the Bunyoro ‘lost counties’ were to be recognized as having reverted to Bunyoro and would be known as Bunyoro territory, in implementation of the Bunyoro Rukurato’s resolution adopted after a two day meeting that month.

The meeting of the Rukurato had been called to welcome back the Omukama officially and to hear an urgent report of the district’s delegation to the London Constitutional conference.

1896 Declaration
‘With effect from midnight October 18, 1961, the lost counties will hence forth be recognized as having been reverted to Bunyoro and thus known as Bunyoro territory’.
It was explained that this was in accordance with the British foreign office declaration of June 30, 1896 which appeared in the London Gazette on July 3, 1896.
