Youth groups have called upon long-serving civil servants to retire and create room for the young generation to play a role in the development of the country.

Youth groups have called upon long-serving civil servants to retire and create room for the young generation to play a role in the development of the country.
Speaking at a function organised to honour former Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi at his home in Lungujja-Mengo on Thursday, over 30 youth leaders from all over the country praised Nsibambi’s service to the country.
They asked other civil servants to emulate him. The youth presented Nsibambi with a portrait of himself to show their appreciation. The initiative was led by Public Opinion, a non- governmental organisation on democratic governance.
“We think Prof. Nsibambi, while serving as Prime Minister, did not only consider personal gain, but put service at the forefront in execution of his constitutional duties,†Adam Buyinza the team leader of Public Opinion, said.
“No wonder he knew when to retire. We want to thank you for your enormous contribution.â€
Joseph Sewava, the national coordinator of Uganda Young Movementists, described Nsibambi as an honest and dependable person.
He also called upon other leaders to emulate his character.
Many other youth from Buganda’s Nkobazambogo praised Nsibambi. Levi Zimbe, a retired civil servant, referred to the retired Prime Minster as a person of integrity.
“He always had an answer to your question. He would assist in finding the right person on a pressing issue. He would never lie to you,†Zimbe said.
Richard Kirigwajjo, a veterinary doctor, expressed gratitude to Nsibambi for his work to the country.
“I remember at my graduation, the Professor said even if it meant going and baking pancakes, go and do it. Many ignored his advice but us who followed it we have traced our routes,†Kirigwajjo said.
Nsibambi, who warmly welcomed the youth to his home, thanked them for the honour, but also disclosed that he was enjoying every moment of his retirement.
