Emulate KCCA

EDITOR: I wish to commend the work Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is doing. I am very grateful. I suggest that all major towns in the country should have this authority.

Politicians are being exposed because they give false promises and compromise every decision they make because they fear being thrown out by the electorate. KCCA should be an eye-opener.

For example, in both Mbale and Kasese, the main markets need to be revamped. The traders deliberately refuse to vacate the markets to go to the designated areas by the town council so that the markets can be rehabilitated. In extreme instances the traders will want to develop the market themselves!

We need better shopping complexes with fire detectors, banking halls, etc. Everyone travelling on major highways are used to seeing food vendors competing to sell food and drinks to passengers whenever a vehicle stops. Is such an environment hygienic?

We should have clean canteens along the roads and food should be served in an orderly manner in a clean environment. Our mayors should see to that.

EDITOR: The rot that has been unearthed in the defunct Kampala City Council is amazing. It was a gravy train at the pleasure of politicians and their cronies.

Under the new administration, the executive director of KCCA, Jennifer Musisi should ensure that no stone is left unturned. There must be proper accountability and those who have dipped their hands in the till must be prosecuted.
