The Rwenzururu king has described the fall of Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gadaffi as unfortunate for African cultural institutions.

Charles Wesley Mumbere was speaking on Sunday during a dinner at Rwenzori Basecamp Hotel, Ibanda.

He had hosted leaders of corporate bodies, the business community and politicians in Rwenzururu kingdom.

Mumbere told his guests that a delegation from the kingdom was set to travel to Libya a few weeks before the country was declared unsafe.

He said one of issues the delegation would have discussed with Gadaffi was establishment of an Islamic university in the kingdom.

Mumbere, who gave certificates of appreciation to about 100 guests, hailed them for supporting the kingdom.

Companies that received certificates included Hima Cement, Kasese Cobalt Company, Kasese Wood and Nail Limited.

Others were Mukwano, Kilembe Mines and Kilembe Investments Limited.

Mumbere invited investors to the area, saying Rwenzori sub-region had abundant untapped natural resources, which could create employment for the youth.

He warned his subjects against waiting for government-initiated projects instead of initiating theirs.

Meanwhile, the kingdom prime minister, Constantine Bwambale, said Mumbere’s 45th coronation anniversary celebrations would be held on October 19. He disclosed that sh400m had been set aside for the ceremony.
