Police in Kamuli have started investigations into the attempted murder of district chief financial officer (CFO) Alex Kifuuse.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Micheal Kasadha told New Vision Online that a group of unknown thugs hacked Kifuuse at his home at 9:00 pm and left him for dead.

Kasadha noted that the incident happened on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, in Muwebwa ward, Bunagwe zone in Kamuli municipality.

“As the victim was entering his house, a group of yet-to-be-identified thugs hacked him using pangas on the head, neck, chest and arms,” he said.

According to the spokesperson, preliminary investigations, on Thursday last week, someone told Kifuuse about plans to assault and murder him. The CFO, however, took the threat lightly and did not report the matter to the Police.

Kifuuse, who was rescued by Good Samaritans, was rushed to Kamuli Hospital in critical condition from where he was referred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for better management.

Kasadha called upon anyone with information about the murder to report to the Police as they continue with the investigations.

In a related incident, thugs attacked and hacked Kassimu Gwoyeta and stole his motorcycle. Gwoyeta is a resident of Nakyaka village, Bugeywa parish in Butansi sub-county still in Kamuli district.

Gwoyeta, who is now nursing wounds at a nearby clinic, was attacked at Nantolo swamp which separates Bugeywa and Kiwungu villages.

Kasadha noted that around 15 cases of murder have been reported in Kamuli district among which include the murder of Edward Lulyambuzi, a pastor with Pentecostal church, John Ntambi a mobile money operator and Edward Muyagwe, the LCII of Wankole sub-county.

According to the Police crime report of 2023, 1,085 murder cases as a result of assault were recorded in 2022 compared to 1,095 in 2021.
