Makerere University has reported a technical problem in the Uganda Revenue Authority's system, which it says is affecting the ongoing examination process.
University vice-chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe says as a result of the problem, 'payments being made by students in order for them to sit examinations are not being reflected on their statements'.
The statement issued today (Monday, January 16) says as a temporary solution, the university's management has decided that for two days (today and tomorrow), it will use the physical bank slips while the system is being rectified.
The decision, according to Nawangwe, is aimed at ensuring that students with fully paid bank slips sit their examinations.
Automation
In a bid to increase the efficiency of the university's operations, many processes at the university are getting automated.
Recently, the Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences (COCIS) installed the Smart Classroom facility worth over $50,000.
The mini launch and demonstration was conducted on September 9, 2022, to set up the classroom.
The facility accommodating 50 computers is being used for recording, broadcasting and automation in the classroom including monitoring the examination, quizzes and any other form of assessment.
The establishment of the smart classroom system at the university was funded by Chinese and education technology companies (the UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation and China’s International Institute of Online Education) under the auspices of UNESCO.
