Heathens’ Rugby Club’s second side Heathens II beat their Buffaloes counterparts 15-3 to lift the inaugural Nile Special Championship reserve trophy after an unbeaten campaign.

Sulaiman Ngobi emerged as the most valuable player of the season for his contribution to the club’s success.

This year, the Uganda Rugby Union created the reserve league to help players get more playing time and gain their fitness early enough after injuries by playing in reserve tournaments.

Every team in the main championship had to enter a team to play the reserve league game before the main game.

The other teams in the reserve league included the Stanbic Black Pirates II, Rhinos II, Warriors II, Lifeguard Rams II, KCB KOBS II, Hippos II, Plascon Mongers II, and Impis II.

The win is a big motivation to the team management and its players who have invested resources and time into the reserve league.

“We are excited about winning the reserve league and this will push the senior side to work harder and win this year’s championship,” Kyadondo chairman Brian Tabaruka said.
