Deputy IGG Achan assumes EAAACA presidency

Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG) Dr Patricia Achan Okiria on May 3, 2024, was handed instruments of power as she began her two-year term as president of the East African Association of the Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA).

Dr Achan’s appointment came during EAAACA’s 15th annual general meeting at the Haile Grand Addis Ababa after the approval of the general assembly.

She takes over office from Rwanda's chief ombudsman Nirere Madeleine, and will host the next annual general meeting in November in Uganda.

Hosted by the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Ethiopia, the meeting which started on April 29 and ended May 3, 2024, brought together heads of anti-corruption agencies from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Djibouti, South Sudan, Burundi, and Somalia.

The meeting was aimed at discussing modalities of strengthening regional cooperation in the fight against corruption.
