The 28 prisoners were in the military court in Makindye where they are facing charges of murder, robbery, and sedition.
They disappeared before the court presided over by Brig Gen Freeman Mugabe after hearing the 31st prosecution witness. They first asked for the statements of the witnesses to be brought so that they can follow up the court ordered their lawyer Capt Simon Nsubuga Busagwa to do so.
The prisoners also asked the court for an answer on their amnesty but chief prosecutor Col Raphael Mugisha told them that their appeal was thrown in the trash.
The accused are Frank Ssemwogerere, Stuart Lugendo, Savio Paul, Julius Mulinda, Julio, Muhammad Nyanzi Makungi, Isa Kizito, Commander Muto, Godfrey Agodri, Walker Ramathan, Paul Iyamuremye, Alex Bogere, Bob Robert Ssenyonga, John Masembe and Faizo Miti Hakim Ssenyonjo, Slyvester Matovu, Derrick Kavuma, Tonny Ssekayombya, and others.
The prosecution, the accused and others affiliated to the Uganda National Coalition Forces for Change carried out attacks on various police stations in Mityana, Mubende and Kassanda killing officers and stealing weapons.
The officers killed include Cpl Alfred Okech who was killed on December 17,2021, in Ssebobo Mityana, and CPl Moses Kigongo who took away an Aka 47 rifle with 30 rounds.
They also allegedly killed SPC Francis Ddimba at Nakasozi police station in Kiboga and on December 16,2021 they returned to Nakasozi and killed Cpl Francis Nsubuga.
The prosecution alleges that after or in the course of the murder , the accused were in possession of a firearm which was allegedly seized from them by the UPDF.
The crimes were allegedly committed between November and December 2021 in Wakiso ,Mityana , Kassanda and Kiboga regions by recruiting people and involving them in insurgency activities with the aim of overthrowing the government
