KAMPALA - Damali Ssali has been appointed country director for the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in Uganda.

GAIN is a Swiss foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle malnutrition. It works with governments, businesses and civil society to improve food systems.

Ssali has over 18 years of executive experience spanning financial services, trade, private sector development and innovation across Africa.

She started her career in London, working with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), before returning to Uganda to take on leadership roles in development and economic reform.

She previously served as country director at TradeMark Africa, where she led trade and logistics programmes, and most recently as chief of programmes and projects at the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), managing national partnerships and multi-sector initiatives.

At GAIN, Ssali will lead efforts to strengthen food systems in Uganda, with a focus on nutrition, access and sustainability.

Her background in policy, entrepreneurship and the private sector is expected to help advance the foundation’s mission to improve diets and health outcomes across the country.
