As campaigns approach, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has called on its candidates to prioritise effective mobilisation and to reflect the party’s principles throughout their campaign activities.
The party spokesperson, Sharon Arach, said that as they prepare for the start of campaigns on November 10, in line with Electoral Commission (EC) guidelines, candidates should focus on highlighting the party’s core values.
Arach made the remarks during the party’s weekly press briefing at the UPC headquarters in Kampala on November 5, 2025.
“We want to call upon the party campaign teams across the country to work closely with the party leadership at all levels to mobilise for votes, which involves proper planning that oversees the entire campaign and voting period,” Arach asserted.
She said UPC and other political players are very busy preparing their flag bearers for a successful campaign.
“The party would like to appreciate the flag bearers across the country for offering themselves for leadership roles for various elective positions as well as making the party visible,” she noted.
She advised the candidates to focus on delivering effective campaigns that highlight and echo the core values of the Uganda People’s Congress in terms of social, economic and political development.
The party further encouraged candidates to share their campaign schedules with both the general membership and party structures to help guide how others can best join in to express support and solidarity.
“We pray that the Independent Electoral Commission, Security Agencies, Political Parties, Candidates and other stakeholders ensure peaceful campaigns and voting across the country,” Arach added.
She explained that through this, democracy would be deepened by creating an environment for freedom of association and expression. “As UPC, we want to reiterate that our campaigns shall always be very peaceful and issue-based,” she said.
She informed the party that UPC president Jimmy Akena would soon embark on campaigns for party candidates as per the harmonised campaign schedules across the country. “Please prepare to welcome the President as he joins in canvassing votes for our candidates.”
Akena was dropped from contesting as the party’s presidential candidate after some members petitioned court over his eligibility, citing that he had already served two terms as mandated by the UPC constitution.
